Farewell to the fairground....

Hornetblog has been around for 18 months and has been a real labour of love for me.  Sadly I do not have the time to commit to the blog in order to make it a "going concern" and so have taken the difficult decision to close the blog for any future contributions.

I would like to thank you all for your support over the last 18 months and I hope I have helped you discover some great new music you may not otherwise have done so.

Please don't give up on using the web to discover new music, there are some fantastic sources of new and unsigned music you can get stuck into.  So please continue to Enjoy the music!

I will leave you with one of my favourites I have uncovered during my time running the blog....  Moon Song by Virgin Soldiers...

Robert Lane

Robert Lane is from Birmingham and writes all his own material and plays his guitar the wrong way around...

The story goes that he taught himself the guitar by "borrowing" his brothers guitar without him knowing. His brother eventually found out and let him play legitimately, by which time Robert had already learned to play the guitar left handed on a right handed stringed guitar...great story!!

Since then Robert has gone onto bigger and better things, he teaches guitar himself, as well as acting andof course writing music!

Robert contacted me recently to let me know about a new single he has released on Bandcamp. "You Want It Both Ways" is available to stream for free now, or you can but it for a mere 70p!!
Check it out here:

From what I have heard of Roberts material the lyrics are often witty and the melodies often memorable, so much that you are humming the tune long after you have finished listening.

There are loads of live dates listed on Roberts website so if you fancy getting along to see some real live music do stop by his page for more info.  There is also a massive catalogue of material to listen to - which I would definitely encourage you to check out.

Crumbs Of Comfort

Crumbs For Comfort are a "nu-folk" band from the East Anglia area of the UK.

They have been compared to the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and  Mumford & Sons.  But actually I think they have a much fresher, and captivating sound.  Their songs sway from melodious and tender to almost anthemic at times - definitely music for a summers afternoon, and music to be played loud!

I haven't seen these guys live but I am sure they put on a real "show".

Their latest single "Witches" is available to download via the new "Supapass" website.  Check out the website and Crumbs for Comforts new song by following this link.

Meanwhile, also take time to check out "Sweet Rose" from CFC's EP " The Good In You".

Coco & The Butterfields

CoCo and the Butterfields are a  colourful and energetic band from Canterbury, England.  Who play their own unique fusion of Folk, Pop and Hip Hop, or “Fip Fok” to their fans.

Thay are already doing pretty well for themselves having collected several song writing awards, getting over 250,000 hits on outbe, as well as sharing the stage with the likes of Bastille and The Pogues.  Not bad, for a band thats only been in existence for a couple of years!!

From humble beginings they have grown to a string five piece providing audiences with strong lyrics, tight guitar melodies and beautifl vocals tied neatly together with beatbox, double bass and banjo!  For once a band that really can be discribed as "unique" so much so that I would be hard pressed to compare then to any other artists I know.

Their latest single "Warriors" is set for release on 29th July, and can be pre-ordered on Itunes.

In the meantime, check out their single "astronuat" and see what you think:

More details on the band can be found on their website -

Until next time ...enjoy the music!

Soho Riots

A four piece formed at Liverpool Uni, Soho Riots cant make up their mind whether to be jolly or melancholy!  Either way their material is fresh, with superb lyric, vocal and some real "positive" and intensive drumming to whisk you through the tracks.

Definitely some fresh talent to keep an eye on.

Check out a couple of tracks from Bandcamp below:

Dont forget to visit the guys' FACEBOOK PAGE to keep up to date on their gigs and new material.

Until next time, enjoy the music!

The Honey Ants

A Great new song from the Honey Ants, who cite their main influences as Bread, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Mamas And The Papas, The Zombies, Jeff Lynne and The Lovin' Spoonful!   Perfect music for the summery weather we are currently enjoying in the UK ( and sorry if you're reading this where the weather isnt so pleasant!!)

These guys have been around for a while, having released debut EP "Release The Ants" in 2011, they have gone onto bigger and better things, including being featured several times on Tom Robinson's Introducing show on BBC Radio 6 Music, and featuring on the Channel 4 series "Sirens".  The guys are also apparently writing music for a new movie for release later this year, and new album material.

They also have some up and coming live gigs in the London area so do head over to their webpage for more details of those, along with links to their facebook pages and other info.

If you haven't come across these guys before I hope you like' em!

Until next time, enjoy the music!!
